Z3200 & HP Print Preview
« on: December 07, 2010, 10:59:21 am »

HP advised we abandon our USB connection to the Z3200 and instead network the printer in response to recurrent difficulties with HP Pinter Utility running OSX. HP says this is a known issue and that USB connectivity is part of the problem, and no solution other that moving to ethernet connectivity exists.

Since moving to a network rather than USB connection, things are going better except that the HP Print Preview seldom observes the Page Setup parameters. As a rule, the Print Preview app records a paper size that is incorrect and not the paper selected in Page Setup. This is particularly the case when moving between sheet-fed stock sizes, and less likely to be a problem when sticking with single width roll paper. Relaunching HP Print Preview, or Lightroom 3 (from which the print driver is being accessed) sometimes helps. When using USB, we never had this problem.

We have always ultimately printed from HP Print Preview, accessing it from the printer driver as it appears in the Lightroom print dialog. Do most of you printing from Lightroom do so from the printer driver, or do you print as we have been doing from the HP Print Preview utility? Any ideas on what is lost if Print Preview is not used, or any thoughts on the failure of Page Setup parameters in the Print Preview handshake?

Many thanks,

Never used HP Preview. Always rely on the Qimage print page preview + its print queue sizes information.

Thank you, Ernst. QImage remains Windows only, I imagine, so I can't enjoy it. You and many others talk about though, so I'm envious.
