Comparing Two Printers on the same Media
« on: December 07, 2010, 10:17:15 am »

I would like to know what the best way to take the CGATS data from (5) IT8 targets and average them together, then take the averaged IT8 CGATS and compare it to another set of averaged CGATS IT8 data to find the relevant differences in ∆E for C,M,Y,K

In other words:

5 duplicate IT8 targets printed on machine X.

5 duplicate IT8 targets printed on machine Y.

CGATS data form X is averaged = Xμ

CGATS data from Y is averaged = Yμ

data from Xμ is compared to Yμ to give the ∆E for C,M,Y,K (yielding the main differences in delta E between the color from machine x vs machine y)

Maybe I should use Profilemaker's Measure Tool to average, and Colorthink Pro for the comparison...but I have not done this before and need a little advice.

Any suggestions?

Your help is greatly appreciated,

Regards,

Use MeaureTool if you have it (set the popup option to Simple), then yes, use ColorThink Pro (if you have it) to plot the differences in a color list (then click on the dE icon and then a report).

@ Andrew....just out of curiosity, why are you recommending simple averaging vs. weighted in Measure Tool? I've always used weighted only because I assumed it was "better" for dealing with measurement "outliers". Just wondering if there's a technical reason to choose simple over weighted.

Just wondering what the process would be for this using just Measure Tool?

Its just something Karl Lang always suggested and I just always used based on his color geekness.

Looking at the PMP notes, it does seem that Weighted would be better for multiple samples to average:

Particularly when averaging more than two measurement files, the weighted method is recommended instead of just calculating a simple arithmetic average.

I may have crossed wires with the recommendation for Simple! At least with multiple readings, you would want to remove outliers.

OK, thanks, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something somewhere.
