TTL Flash options for Hasselblad H4D-40
« on: November 22, 2010, 10:31:33 pm »

Okay, so ruling out the built in flash on the Hasselblad H4D-40, what are alternative TTL flash options both on camera and off camera? Also, is my Nikon SB900 with some sort of adapter an option? Is Quantum an Option? If no TTL option then what is the best non-TTL solution, other than studios strobes? It needs to be a very portable solution. Wireless would be preferable except in the on camera option.

Thanks for any help.

The Strobist is always interesting for all things flash, lots of off camera/portable solutions:

Metz is probably the correct answer, have a look at their TTL flashes with the correct 'blad module.

Yes, Metz is the supported option with the right SCA adapter.

A question acoording to :

Metz does't hava and adapter for the h4d hasselblad. Does the "analog" listed on the other tab works?  I know the H3D adapter is listed there.

If you don't find a desirable TTL option, Radio Popper JRx Studio (with the Nikon 'Cube') units may be an option.

http://www.radiopopper.com/the-jrx-system

They're camera-agnostic and allow you remote triggering and stepless wireless control of the power (manually) for up to three groups of speedlights directly from the hot-shoe transmitter.  They also offer a Canon 'cube' option, but the Nikon version (for any Nikon TTL-ready speedlight save the SB-900) seems to work better by most accounts. I use the Nikon version (not with Hassy) to remotely trigger and control the power of some older Nikon SB-80Dxs vs the PW's used for my Profoto strobes. Works like a charm, great range.

The H4 takes the same adapter as the H4, does it? I have not tried mine yet.
