Import - Add - Change Filename
« on: November 11, 2010, 11:16:36 am »

I keep all my images on an exrenal hard drive and I usualy download with my card reader straight to a new folder on my ext hard drive named for the shoot date etc. When I import I use a preset with all my metadata settings. However I like to remame the file with a shorter and better numbering system. I know how to do this afterwards but when I use ADD there is no file name change box as there is in COPY or MOVE so I can't include it in my preset when I use Add as when I already have the images on the ext hard drive.
Am I missing something  ??? - What brought this to light was I have just set up LR3 and so I renamed my files by doing them all in bulk - but now on new images I run into this. I suppose in the future I could download my flash card by using COPY.

Cheers
Graham.

No, its just one of those oddities about ADD which kind of bugs me (why can’t I Add AND convert to DNG as I can with copy and move). I too like to use Add as I, like you, often drag images into a desired location on an external drive prior to import (there are some advantages to this method when you have multiple cards of images to import). But alas, what you and I want isn’t available.

FWIW, I’m going to cover this idea of Add (and copy/move) among other things in a webinar tomorrow:
