A friend at a Halloween party. Canon G10 at 1600 ISO, 1/5 sec, handheld.

Happy Halloween!

Very well done. The lighting is just right for the subject.

BTW, that image is pretty clean for ISO 1600 on the G10.  Did you do anything special in post-processing?

Yes: noise reduction is kept at only 10 (in LR3), to preserve detail… however, given that shadows are totally unimportant in this type of shot, blacks are ramped up to 50… that kills shadow noise almost completely… and lastly, the window did not have to be sharp at all, so I used a gradient filter with sharpness set to −100 (thus acting as a lens blur, blurring the noise as well)…

Whiiiieeeeeeeew!

What was that just flew right over my head?

That extra hour in bed today has blown my circuits. I had to get up and check with the computer that today was today. Then I crawled back to bed and waited pointlessly for another hour.

;-(

Nice!  I had always thought ISO 1600 was pretty much unusable on the G10, but I guess it just requires a little extra effort in post.  Good work.

How about this one, though at 800 ISO (also G10, and also an "alpha male", in his own time):

Both the top shot and the bottom shot are excellent IMO, doubly-so that they were taken with a G10 @ high ISO.

I especially like the bottom shot.

I like this image a lot, particularly the one-sided "hatchet" lighting. The subject's expression is very cool.  I suggest just one thing - try burning in the the background over the subjects right shoulder (our left) as that can be a bit of a distraction.
