Handing off Raw File to PS
« on: October 28, 2010, 05:53:58 pm »

In the LR3 LuLa video tutorial Mr. Schewe states that when handing off a raw image to edit in PS the PS file does not get saved to disc until you make changes in PS and then hit save. I am NOT finding this to be the case at all. When ever I choose: Photo> edit in PS 5, LR2 immediately creates a PS file and saves it to disc and it immediately appears in the film strip next to the RAW original. Are others finding this to be the case?

As long as the Lightroom/Camera Raw pipeline is matched, Lightroom does not automatically create a saved version until you actually save the file (I just double checked). If your pipeline is mismatched (such as LR 3.3 and ACR 6.2) and you get a warming asking about rendering the file via Lightroom, it goes back to the old behavior of auto-saving the file before editing in Photoshop.

BTW, are you using Lightroom 2 with Photoshop CS5? That would be a mismatch...LR 2 and ACR 5.7 in CS4 should also not auto save...LR 2 and CS5, I don't know, never tested that.

Ok. I did not know LR ever employed PS's Camera Raw. Thanks for the clarification.
