Thanks for the comments, I think your right a slightly different crop may work better but I wanted the close in view to portray emotion of the moment. I'll take a look at the processing for what exposure as I think it was lighter before I adjusted it.

There are no easy answers to framing/cropping... if you had included the whole of the polo pony's nose, it would have lead the eye out of the picture.
A higher view point might have enabled you to get more of the "emotion of the moment" by including some of the field/pitch and other riders/ponies.
A vertical crop, including the rider's foot, and cropping off the mallet-head might have been an option?
