is there any way to export the settings from the lightroom 3 catalogue and then open them in LR 2?
my school computer only has 2 but i built the catalogue on my home version 3.   so i  NEED to get the work i did somehow into that format - it's months of work!!! mostly it's the collections i've created in sorting the images that are so important.
any ideas anyone?? ??? :'(

Ctrl S (Cmd S if on Mac) saves the IPTC metadata and adjustments back to the images. You won't get stacks, virtual copies, assignment to dumb collections, edit history. You can import the files into LR2, though LR3 adjustments won't come over. It may be good enough.

Collections - well, it depends if they are smart collections. If so, right click each one and select Export Smart Collection Settings. That creates a file for each one, which can then be imported into the other catalogue. If they are dumb collections, you're out of luck.

Sorry, no and no. I suggest that you select all items in each dumb collection, and assign them a keyword "dumb coll 1" etc, then do the CtrlS/CmdS. At least then the dumb collection assignment will survive.

Smart collections are like queries. So you could have one that looks for "title contains beach" and "state contains Florida"
