Combining Two or More Catalogs
« on: October 19, 2010, 05:13:55 pm »

Hello,

I've learned quite a bit from poking around this forum but I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this one here or in the LR documentation. Maybe I'm not searching for the correct terms so please forgive if this has been covered here already.

Is it possible to combine or "merge" two more more catalogs? Because I didn't fully understand how the catalogs and backups worked in the past, I have tons of catalogs most with the same name with some pointing to some photos and the other pointing to other photos.

What I thought would work was to create a new catalog (calling it "Master Catalog", export (as catalog) the photos from an old catalog and import as catalog into the new catalog. It works for one catalog but when I try to import another exported catalog it won't accept it and I get an "unknown error" message.

Maybe there is an easier way to do this so I can have all my photos in one master catalog and start backing up that one up.

Thanks in advance,

With Catalog A open, select File>Export as Catalog. Then with Catalog B open, select File> Import as Catalog.
