Blue Jay
« on: October 13, 2010, 10:52:33 pm »

I was back in Ontario for the thanksgiving holiday and just couldn't resist trying for some Blue Jay shots. I hope you like this one perched on a Sumac tree.

All the best!

Glenn

A nice composition but I find the colour balance a little odd. Is the bird really that blue? I don't think it is my monitor because other images look OK. The sharpness is fine so there is good potential for this image. :)

I also find it a little bluish. Other than that, I like it a lot.

The WB does seem a little cool - even the white on the feathers has a bluish cast.  Nice bird, though!

As an amatuer birder and amatuer photographer, I agree, nice shot/nice  bird.  As to the color, we get mostly Scrub Jays out here (Oregon), which have a different set of shadings.  That said, a quick review of my bird books and a couple birding sites show a range of bluish shading (including none) on this bird's white parts.  Of course, those photos could have had incorrect WB as well.  FWIW.

I rarely like any bird, pet, child or flower photography. Your bluejay however is one the most beautiful I've seen in a long time. The wb is a little bluish but it doesn't deter from it. On the opposite, it helps convey the mood of the bluejay in it's enviro. That's what creative photography is about.
Congratulations!
