I recently worked for an artist, and produced a quite impressive "Superslide", 10 x 12 feet.
The image divided in 30 squares, each printed on Epson Display Backlight film (24" roll),
mounted with opitcally MacTac adhesive on ordinary glass. The glass-side facing down in the room.
(a waiting-room at a hospital, see attached image)

How was the back-lighting implemented so evenly on such a grand scale?

You can read Reply#13.
I can add that there are 15 sets of tubes, connected in series, each about 12 feet long and at a 5 inch distance from the glass.
I don't remember the size of each tube, but it was more than hundred pieces!
Everything is dimmed and controlled by a programmed electronic "box".
