Epson 4000 "paper out"'
« on: September 30, 2010, 12:14:49 am »

I get a 'paper out' message whenever I try to use the paper tray for 8 1/2 x 11. Of course there is plenty of paper there. I have tried cleaning dust from the rollers without luck. I generally use roll paper but it would be nice to use the tray feed sometimes.
Any ideas?

Is it only 8.5x11 paper that this happens or does it happen on any size or type of paper? Does it happen before or after the roller spindle turns to pick up the paper in the tray?

I think there are 3 input roller sensors on that machine, I can send you a copy of the repair manual if your interested, not sure how unless I email it.

Sounds mechanical, though not a lot of information. Have you checked the operation of the feed mechanism? If not remove the paper tray and cover, put in a few sheets of paper and set the side guide. Print and watch the way things happen (may need a flash light). The locks at the sides will rotate, the bed will hinge up to put the paper in contact with the rollers, which will draw the paper into the printer. This should be a smooth operation, no stutters other wise you have a problem some where. Let me know if you like what happens.

Thats great Dennis I'm glad it runs now. The 4000 is a well made machine, I sure it will go for a long time.
All the best, Bob.
