No Z3200 Replacement?
« on: September 28, 2010, 08:15:17 pm »

I was disappointed to see no upgrade announced for the z3200 at Photokina. HP has been running a 25% off sale with no competitive tradein which I took as a signal that something new was coming.

Any thoughts?

The Z6200 is the one and only new model in the Z range. 44" and 60" Like the new Epsons 9890, 7890, it doesn't have the extra RGB hues but the inks have changed (Vivid instead of Vivera) so the gloss is better and the surface more scratch resistant. A very fast machine which is good competition to the Epson 11880 but less to the Canon iPF9100 with the 12 inks.

In general the printer news on the Photokina was limited. Canon's new models were already news before that event. The Epson 4900 completed the 9900, 7900 range. I do not expect a new 60" model in that range, the market for 60" wide printers isn't that big.

Competition right now will be main factor in pricing, lower prices because new models appear is less likely. Epson dropping prices of the 9900 to promote the new 9890 isn't to be expected. I think they will keep two ranges in the market: 3880, 7890, 9890, 11880 and 4900, 7900, 9900. In my opinion their main concern should be better service and a better policy on service.

Expect from all more cosmetic upgrades for some time and possibly speed, the image quality is already at a high level.

Actually it is a great news for me because I just bought the Z3200

Plus I'm also going to be the first one who will own the Z6200 in China. Can't wait!
