Amsterdam Photo Questions
« on: September 21, 2003, 05:12:58 am »

Hi Robert,

Amsterdam is a wonderful place and easily explored. Get yourself a good city guide book and just go. The tramways should bring you to more remote parts of town - but the city centre is not that large (about 5 km diameter).

As for a bit of typical Dutch landscape: hire a car for a day and go to the polders just north of Amsterdam, like the Schermer and especially the Beemster.

Around Broek op Langedijk, Westzaan etc. you should find plenty of mills. No tulips in November though!

Well worth a visit are the villages along the IJsselmeer, like Durgerdam, Monnikendam, Edam etc.

Hope you will enjoy your visit to the Netherlands!

Hi Bob,

I think Wim has described it quite good. If you walk a little bit south/west from the centre you will find very nice channels (called 'grachten' in Dutch). An advantage is also that the most tourist will stay right in the centre, so if you move a little about it can be suprisingly quiet. Try Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht, Spiegelgracht and the streets around.

You can also take one of the sightseeing boats that go trough the channels.

Have a happy stay in Amsterdam!

Amsterdam Photo Questions

I will be in Amsterdam four nights on my way back from Kenya in mid-November and am looking for photo op suggestions.  I would even be interested in linking up with a photo tour operator.  Interested in landscape and architecture, particularly the canals, windmills, etc.  Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Be well,
