I’ve just tried out what I’d hoped would be a good workflow whilst shooting away from base, but there seems to be a few issues with it.
All photos were imported onto a laptop running LR3.2 and copied to new folder, LR builds previews and I can keyword the images, do some first line sorting and post processing on location. Once back at base, I wanted to import the photos into my main LR installation by importing them as a catalogue to retain all the metadata & previews.
When I try to import the new catalogue, it gives me an option to select where to copy the ‘negatives’ to; but on my windows 7 system the dialogue is only allows me to create new location on my desktop, not much use when I want to copy all the raw master files to a folder on a different drive. Also there’s no option to make second copies of the masters to a different destination (as is offered by the standard import options).
Is this the correct behaviour ? If so, it’s far from ideal. I’ve worked round the limitations by then moving the folder of raws to where I want within LR, but still need to back up the files manually.
Have Adobe missed out keeping up this ‘import catalogue’ feature in step with the new import dialogue ?
The limitation of only allowing moving to a folder within the desktop hierarchy seems to be a simple bug to me. I think I've also come across this issue on some other dialogues too.
