I am not a Canonista - I  belong, no, have sold my photographic soul to the N camp. But I did own a new Pantax 67 ll for a while, with the 55mm and 200mm lenses only.

Two things: using the centre part of a larger format lens on a smaller format camera does not give you the best chance in the world to shine. A dedicated 35mm format lens excells because it is designed to cover no more than the 35mm format; a 6x7 format optic is designed to give the best possible coverage over that 6x7 format, which inevitable reduces its value within the central area. You do not get 35mm quality spread over 6x7. You simly can't scale up or down with lenses; they are a compromise at all format sizes.

Buy dedicated glass.

I did use a selection of mamiya 645 lenses on  my 1ds3 with a shift adaoter
http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/lenses/m645-shift.html

I also have a basic adapter where I've used them. I didn't think they'd be of real use, but in the last week, my 24-70 has been away for repair and I used both the 35mm and 55mm on an industrial job, where manual focus and manual stop down was not an issue

Image quality is OK, but for ease of use I'm hoping the 24-70 is soon back with me ;-)

Hi,

From my Velvia scans I got the impression that my Pentax 67 lenses are far behind my 135 (full format) lenses.

http://echophoto.dnsalias.net/ekr/index.php/photoarticles/16-pentax67velvia-vs-sony-alpha-900

The findings here indicate that Velvia at 67 with Pentax lenses is about on par with Sony Alpha 900 and 24-70/2.8 ZA, including the size advantage.

Test was done with 90/2.8 at f/8. I have also 45/4, 165/2.8, 300/4 and the Fisheye. Observations are pretty similar, not very sharp and a lot of chromatic aberration.

Best regards

Thanks Rob, your response makes perfect sence. I guess i'll be selling my much loved 6x7 system, which i would prefer to use, but can't because of non existent lab services in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.

I used numerous Pentax 6x7s for years in my commercial photo business... absolutely loved them.  I sold everything but my favorite body and a handful of lenses in maybe 2000 as I could see my digital future.  I kept that one system for sentimental value as much as anything.  I've spent sooooo much of my photographic career with these things.  I doubt that I've run five rolls of film through the system that I kept since then.  I can't imagine what you'd gain by using Pentax 6x7 glass on a Canon except a sore back from all the additional weight.

According to the 16:9 website, the Pentax 645 lenses are stupendous and the best for the full-frame canons...

I can't speak to 67 lenses on 35mm, but this photographer is using his 67 lenses on his 645D with nice results....

Mark:
I once did a not very rigorous comparison of some Pentax 67, 645 and 35mm lenses on a Pentax DS (6 MP).  I could see very little difference comparing the SMC M 50mm f/1.4 the 645 55mm f/2.8 and the 67 50mm f/4.  The 645 might be the best of the group, but not by much.  In most cases, I would say there is no advantage to using the 67 lenses unless you are using a Zoerk shift adapter to produce stitched photographs.  The 67 lenses are bigger, heavier and slower than their 35mm counterparts.  If you don’t have the 35mm lens, that’s a different story.  I don’t have a 35mm or 645 300mm lens, but I do have a 67 300mm ED; it works great on the smaller formats.
