Nikon competition open to all cameras.... except medium/large format

I wonder why they did this? Are they afraid of the bigger cameras showing up the quality of the Nikon offerings?

"Image data captured with a digital still camera (excluding that captured by medium-format and larger digital cameras) and image data created by scanning an image captured with a film camera (35mm or APS) will be accepted. Images that have been digitally enhanced or edited with software will also be accepted. "

So a drum-scanned 8X10 is OK but a 6MP MFDB file won't be accepted?

How could they tell were the file is from anyway?

No. If you read the quote in the first post, it limits film eligibility to 35mm as well.
