Hot off the presses from the Australian distributor:

- Sinar eVolution 86H - a 48.8 megapixel multishot back.
- Sinar eShutter - a 7 blade electronic shutter with 1/6 stop accuracy, that can take batteries, be used on third party cameras and be controlled using an iPhone
- CaptureShop 6 that creates DNG files even from multishot files so any DNG aware raw processor can be used to edit.
- Great trade in deals
- Shipping before the end of the year

Slightly disappointed there is no mobile back upgrade to the eMotion 75 i.e. a 48mpx version with a screen and cf card etc.

Thanks Ben.

Nice that Sinar doesn't exaggerate, not even rounding up to 49mpx.
Noticed eVolution86 is with Dalsa sensor, whereas Hasselblad's 50mpx backs are Kodak sensors.

eShutter's faster 1/250th speed is attractive over Schneider's 1/60th.
Hopefully, it'll use readily available batteries, maybe even digital back batteries?
iPodTouch/iPad/iPhone as controller also beats paddles from Schneider & Rollei.

Great that Sinar is still making backs! Now if only they could release another eSprit back with a full 645 sensor...

My thoughts exactly! I'd be happy with this 49mp chip being used for a new eSprit back - using the same great screen, DNG out of the back, great high ISO and fast capture rate. C'mon Sinar! (But this time with a Contax adapter please!)

I was thinking of buying a set of Schneider Electronic Shuttered Apo-Digitars, so this is interesting...

¿Can you use the eShutter on a mid standard like the old lensboard shutters?
Has it got the same threads as a Copal or Schneider, so I can screw a RMS (microscope screw) adapter into it for Macro?
Can you use it with a H4 digiback other than via the flash socket?

biggest microlenses option yet; about one stop more sensitive

- Sinar eVolution 86H - a 48.8 megapixel multishot back.
Link: http://www.capturescanprint.com/
This seems to use the Dalsa sensor with microlenses and roughly 40% QE described at
http://www.dalsa.com/sensors/news/news.aspx?itemID=167
http://www.dalsa.com/public/corp/pdfs/DALSA_IEDM_2008_proceedings_final.pdf
I have been waiting for this sensor to appear in an actual MF product for almost two years from its announcement, because this launches a Dalsa improvement in microlens design which eliminates the off-diagonal sensitivity problem of all previous microlenses, making microlenses usable on MF sensor larger than 44x33mm for the first time, while maintaining compatibility with all lenses including shifts. The prize is almost twice the sensitivity of previous MF sensors of this size:
41%-35%-22% in G-R-B, compared to 22%-22%-16% for Kodak's similar 49.1x36.8mm, 50.1MP KAF-50100:
http://www.kodak.com:80/global/plugins/acrobat/en/business/ISS/productsummary/FullFrame/KAF-50100ProductSummary.pdf
So almost one stop increase is usable ISO speed.

Also, lower read noise and larger well capacity adds up to higher DR an even more of a high ISO advantage over that Kodak sensor.

I think this one was with the 50/2.8 AFS. I might have cropped the image a bit

MartinWidmann,

Will the eShutter be as buttery smooth & quiet as the Sinar CMV lenses,

or will they be ratchety sounding like the Schneiders ?

Any new info would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Billy

I can only tell you my personal impression. I would say, the shutter is equally quiet to the CMV shutter. The aperture mechanism is considerably quieter than the CAB.

Thank you Martin.

Wasn't there more info and pricing due after Photokina?

I'd like to see the whole setup --> what cables are used, what powering options, and the iDevice software, please.

Regards,
Billy
