Iceland #4 - Well of Life
« on: September 03, 2010, 06:07:13 am »

Here is one that I busted the rental 4WD to get to ;D Located at Hveravellir, this geothermal pool lies at the end of 70 miles of some of Iceland's worst roads. A horrible drive in, and a horrendous drive out in thick fog. thoughts and comments welcome.

What size would you print it at?
Have you a target market for this?
Are people prepared to pay a premium for photos of difficult to get to places?
How do you research locations?
Is it sharp at full res? (I see you use a Canon, so I can answer my own question)

Love the mood projected by the blues.

I'd say it was worth the trip. Nice shot.

I think it was worth breaking the rental... I don't know about the background, though.  For me, the image is about the pool, and not so much about the pool in a location.  I trust you won't mind me messing with your image, but I would have done something like this...

I prefer the original with the mountain ridge in the background. Gives the scene context.

That's my thinking, too. And the dark mountain outline echoes the dark front edge of the pool.
Magical image from a magical place!

+1
Beautiful shot.
Foreground could still be even crisper.
I think apart from the beautiful color the image lives from the contrast between the
sharp, structured foreground and the soft background fog.
I also believe a B/W conversion might be worth trying.
Thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous image. The frosty nature of this landscape and Josh's take is really worth beating one's  lower back in a 4x4!
