Epson 9900 making weird noise.
« on: September 02, 2010, 01:20:04 am »

Hello, my Epson 9900 is making a noise whether it is printing or not.  It occurs about every ten seconds and last for about 2 or 3. It is hard to describe.  I called Epson tech support and the person I spoke to asked if it sounded like a cat purring, that probably isn't a bad description.  He says the one behind him has been doing it for the past year or so, he assumed they always made this noise so never looked into it.  He didn't have an immediate answer.

I don't really have a clue what this is, it is hard to place the source of the sound.

Print quality so far has not been impacted.

It is slowly driving me crazy.

Any ideas?

It could be a cooling fan with a worn out bearing. I have a 7600 with a very small fan that makes noise like a jet engine  :'(

Mike, did you ever discover a solution for this problem? My 9900 just started doing the same thing a few days ago. Its only about 14 months old and its just started doing it with no apparent cause.
