What would happen if a DSLR maker launched a camera with open source firmware? One for the 4/3 open standard concept? All those features like ISO priority, separate channel histograms, adjustable timer delay... (the list is endless) could be made available by 3rd party suppliers, (or malicious programmers could make all your horizons crooked!)

Given that you can probably screw up the shutter with a bad program, I doubt that any manufacturer is going to do it.  OTOH, since it is upgradeable, a good programmer should be able to reverse engineer the firmware and reprogram it.  All we need is for a few of you 1Ds owners to loan your cameras to you local hacker club.:-)
