Sigma SD9 & Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel)

Does anybody have experiences with Sigma SD9 AND Canon 300D? Which one is faster? (Autofocus, shutter lag...) One can buy them nowadays for about the same price. I had the Sigma in my hands for an hour or so and I got the impression it's rather slow...
