Mac Utilities - Suggestions Requested
« on: August 24, 2010, 10:48:30 am »

Hello :

I am about to purchase the new MacBook Pro and remain undecided between the following two Utilities, MicroMat's TechTool Pro v 5.0 and ProSoft's Drive Genius v 3.0.

What are your experiences - Which one would you suggest ??

The one piece of software that I am going to purchase is Alsoft's DiskWarrior - But for the above, not sure - Request your inputs.

Thanks,

Jai

I have found DiskWarrior to be useful on a couple of occasions, when it was able to fix problems with which Disk Utility couldn't cope.. I've never felt the need for either of the other two. What are your reasons for wanting them?

I haven't used Drive Genius but I own TechTools Pro V5. Frankly, I don't find TechTools very useful and it has yet to prove that it can save my day. On the other hand, Disk Warrior proved to be worth its price.

I would buy DiskWarrior and keep my money…

Hello Jeremy, Francois & Richard :

I hear you all about DiskWarrior - Good piece of software to keep the Mac working !!

The main reason for the other utilities is that I live in the part of the world where Mac are not completely rare, but rare enough - One has to "find" Apple/Mac specialists/repair shops and from this perspective I feel its better that I arm myself with the appropriate tools in the event when "things" go wrong.

Your experience is similar to mine where "things" normally don't fall apart on the Mac, but for reasons explained, I would prefer to maintain the comp myself as much as possible.

Cheers,

Jai
