problem with 1ds3 reading CF card
« on: August 21, 2010, 07:27:09 pm »

hey all new to the forum and in need of some help please.
i have a 1ds3 and 5d2 and recently updated firmware on both.
think the firmware may have caused the problem below but cant be sure.
i've been mainly using my 5d2 and when put CF cards in the 1ds recently realised they arent being recognised.
the camera says busy for about 5 seconds then the lcd says "card 1 not formatted - format with this camera"
but when i try to format it says "cannot format. change card1"
it happens with all my cards bar one 32GB which seems to work across both cameras.
any ideas? i tried to reinput the firmware but cant as CF card with firmware isnt recognised due to the same problem.
any help would be appreciated. anyone experience anything similar?
thanks, richard

Hi Richard,

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Have you tried another brand of card? I always use Sandisk cards in my 1Ds3, and never had problems with them, and I'm running up-to-date firmware. Since your problems started after the firmware update, I suspect either a card incompatibility or a failed firmware upgrade that won't let itself be changed anymore.

Good luck,
Bart

This seems due a "bump" to ask how Richard & Josh have made out,
or if they're still puzzled and cardless?

No problem  here with Sandisk cards. As Bart suggested above, try a different brand of card and see if it helps.
