monopods and aircraft
« on: August 21, 2010, 12:21:43 pm »

How do you take a monopod with you by air? Mine (the Manfrotto with the friction locks which Michael reviewed a while ago: I forget the model number) is too large to fit into any of my suitcases. I'm reluctant to let it go in the hold on its own and I suspect (though I didn't try) that the crew would look askance if I tried to take it on board.

Does anyone make a handle with a tripod bush socket? Then I could limp a bit and pretend it was a walking stick  ;)

Manfrotto 685B. I carry a small phillips screwdriver and a socket and remove the foot and completely dismantle the head and put the bits in ziplock bags. It's a pain but I really like this monopod. Warning: don't try to re-assemble if stressed or tired  :o
I've put it in the hold on small commuter flights but wouldn't feel comfortable letting it through the baggage section in a large airport.
