Epson P-7000 vs IPAD?
« on: August 20, 2010, 08:08:24 pm »

Hello,

I recently purchased an Epson P-7000 to use as a field backup/storage/viewing device.
As difficult as it was to hand over the cash, being that the device is rather expensive, I did
and must say that it is pretty cool.
I was under the impression that the IPad was not suited to photographers being that there is
no CF reader or USB. Also the largest IPadd has only 64gb.

I have about 10 days to return the Epson for a full refund.

Asking any of you that are familiar with both to give your thoughts.

Return Epson and purchase IPad?
or continue to use Epson as the cool device that it is?

Thanks much!

Hm, I don't like Epson devices. Small HDD capacity, very expensive, no external USB device support, only 640x480 pixels for 4" display, wide gamut display( ??? ), etc.
But Apple IPad is not for backup/storage purpose at all.
I prefer to use Vosonic VP8860 (http://www.vosonic.com/product.php?PA=feature&kind=1&id_1=9) or VP8870 (http://www.vosonic.com/product.php?PA=feature&kind=1&id_1=16)

I think you already understand that the iPad isn't designed for backing up professional photos on the road, for all the reasons you listed.

easy to use IPad for storage, just use the Apple Camera Connector Kit, it works with many card-readers using the usb end.  course you are limited to the amount of memory you have in your IPad....

Not any more. The new Hyperdrive let's you add a 750gig drive to an iPad via the card reader connector.
