From Chateau Ussé, supposedly the inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty story (and if you believe that...).

Any good?

Jeremy,
I like it a lot and find that the asymmetric wood beams layout makes it very interesting. I'm a bit less thrilled by the B/W conversion but since I'm no expert on that my comment is not that important.

Nice... I think that more light at the higher levels would make it look more 3D.

Thanks, both.

Francois: here is the colour version. I've fiddled with it a bit but somehow the b&w appealed more to me: in colour, it's a staircase but in b&w it's rather more abstract. The large cobweb at the lower level certainly shows up better in colour, though! What do you think?

Dick: here is another b&w. I've tried to open up the shadows a bit - is that what you meant? I agree that better lighting would perhaps have made a better shot, but when you're just a tourist, allowed to take snapshots (albeit with better-than-average kit), you have to take what you're given!

Jeremy

(I've also enabled lens profiling on these two, which I'd forgotten to do before; I think it's an improvement)

Jeremy,
I like the B&W best and to my eyes, your last version is an improvement over the initial image!
The color version has some good points but I fully agree with you B&W is the way to go for this photo.

Definitely the BW version (2nd one).
I like it a lot.
