calibrating with puck that came with NEC 2690
« on: August 18, 2010, 10:07:08 am »

I would like to use the color calibration puck that came with my NEC 2690 monitor to calibrate monitors on other computers - specifically PC's at work, and my macbook pro laptop.
Looking for suggestions for software that will work with the Gretag-Macbeth puck on both PC and Mac.

You can use free Argyll CMS with dispcalGUI:

Thanks - any direct experience using this software?
I'm wondering if the colormeter that came with my monitor is a stock off the shelf meter, or if NEC modifies it in some way for their monitors.

It's somehow custom-matted by X-Rite for NEC displays, so I'm not 100% sure how it's gonna work with other software and monitors.
I've tested it with my i1pro and it's very interesting - it's written by a color geek so it has 10x more options than any other profiling software, and improved sensor drivers.

This is interesting.  Any chance it has an option for plasma displays?  I'd like to profile the HDMI input from my PC being used by my plasma HDTV.  So far I haven't had much luck, if it profiles at all it's obviously far off.  Which leaves me using an older Spyder TV colorimeter and software.. but this has you adjusting the tv and isn't letting the video card LUT work for you.

The quote from NEC SpectraView FAQ
Quote
QUESTION: Can I use the new MDSVSENSOR2 color sensor included in the new SVII-PRO-KIT with other 3rd party calibration applications?

ANSWER: Yes, however the custom calibration for NEC wide color gamut displays will not be available. Only the standard calibration is available.
That is true. NEC colorimeters are custom calibrated only for SpectraView II. I tested my NEC MDSVSENSOR2 colorimeters with i1Match, basICColor display, ColorEyes Display Pro, ProfileMaker, ArgyllCMS, etc. NEC Colorimeters do work with these programs as regular out-of-shelf i1Display 2 colorimeters.
BTW You can download free i1Match application from X-Rite site. NEC colorimeters work with it without problems.

Excellent, thanks for that info - I will give i1match a go with my colormeter.

I found this information helpful, too. I have a 2690 and the NEC calibrated puck, and I felt it would be silly/wasteful to buy another system to calibrate my laptop (which I use with the 2690.) I just downloaded the X-rite software and it worked perfectly with the X-rite/NEC puck to calibrate my laptop.

Thanks Ken for that quick help! Much appreciated.  I didn't realize it requires Rosetta to be installed, oh well.  Anyone have any experience with the Open Source software, Argyll CMS on a Macbook Pro 10.6?

Thanks  jeff
