Jeremy, Interesting pattern, but what's that star heading northeast when everybody else is heading northwest?

Could be a meteor or satellite.

Seems there are a lot of these types of shots cropping up in the last week or so around the Perseids.  ;D

What was your shooting sequence?  How much time between shots?  I ask because of the gaps between the trail sections.  I've got the same thing.

This doesn't work for me, not even as an abstract.
The gaps in the trails are not very nice and there is no composition.

Sorry

Hi Jeremy,

I prefer continuous trails rather than 'dashed'. What was the interval between images, and what were the exposure settings?

Cheers,
Bart

The interval timer was set to shoot 30 seconds at f/2.8 @ISO 200 every 45 seconds.

I had originally intended to shoot at ISO 1600 and to let it go for a lot longer, but when I realized I had left Auto-ISO "on" and it was shooting at 200 rather than 1600, I stopped the shoot after only 18 frames.  Top make a very long story short, I didn't setup again for another shot ... may do some more next weekend.  I processed the images with a decent exposure boost (+3 EV) to make up for the accidental lack of sensitivity.

Personally, I like the look of the dashes ... I was intentionally going for that look.  Also, I cropped a bunch to make the streak more prominent.

I'm also pretty sure that the streak is a meteor ... having gotten fooled last year by a couple planes, I'm pretty sure this one is a Perseid.  In the individual exposures there is a small flury of streaks with one much more prominent than the others ... that is the one you can see clearly in the composite.

I have to agree with Luis. I really don't see what is being communicated. Neither star trails, nor rhythm, nor pattern.

This makes me think of a close-up of textured fabric; in that respect, I find it pleasing. However, the meteor trail I find distracting.
