Is there any cheaper/free alternative to get a "Phatte black" system on a epson 4800?  I have the refillable ink system right now but this matte/glossy paper is really getting to me.  Spending $900 for image print is just not an option.  I'm figuring I could just put Matte black in my LL Black refill cart and then it would be a matter of the driver profile stuff..... Has anyone done this?  I'd really like to be able to print on Matte paper with having to buy imagePrint which is just not an option for me.

Perhaps you could use QTR?

How would you know that the heads are cleared of the previous black (matte or photo), without doing a change over?

My experience with the Epson printers prior to getting the 9900, is that given the choice of PHOTO or MATTE black ink the MATTE is far more versatile.  Using for instance Epson's Ultra Smooth Fine art paper with matte black ink, when placed under glass yield a very acceptable image.
