LR3.2 Lens Correction and Canon s90
« on: August 11, 2010, 12:18:17 pm »

According to Adobe, Lightroom 3.2 Lens Correction includes the Canon s90 but when I click on the enable box and select Canon, there's no mention of the camera.Should there be?

The Model comes up as Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM as does the Profile However, clicking on the Model dropdown brings up a list of lenses which includes the Canon 6.1-30.5mm F2.8-4.5 which I took to be the nearest to the s90 lens. Selecting this gives a profile for the Canon PowerShot G10.

Am am I correct in assuming, therefore, that the S90 and the G10 (and G11?) use the same lens correction profile in LR3.2?

No...the S90 lens corrections (distortion, CA and vignette) are hard coded into ACR/LR and you can't turn them off. Adding the G10 would over-correct. If you find you need further or modified corrections, use the Transforms in the Manual tab.

Thanks very much for your prompt reply, Jeff.

I’m still a bit puzzled though. If I select an image shot with my Canon 5D and 24-105 L lens  and than click enable in the Lens Correction panel, the correct  information shows in Make, Model and Profile. When I then click on the Model drop-down, the s90 shows at the bottom of the list.

However, when I select an image shot with the s90 and click on the enable button, Make shows ‘none’ and when I select Canon as the Make, it offers the lens mentioned above (G10) but the Model drop-down doesn’t show the s90 and therefore I cannot enable its profile.

Seamus, the S90 lens profile is only available when processing raw files.

Of course, Eric. Here's the Murphy's Law explanation for my confusion. I'd loaned the s90 to a friend who set it to JPEG shooting mode and didn't put it back to RAW when finished. Next time I used it, I mistakenly thought it was shooting RAW as usual - hence the subsequent confusion. Mystery solved.

Thanks Jeff and Eric
