Portraits of a Distance Runner
« on: August 10, 2010, 10:21:55 pm »

Hello LL!

Thanks for taking a look.  I had a fun shoot this morning at dawn in the hills above Oakland, CA.  I'm hoping to move my portfolio more in this direction – a more "natural light" look – and would appreciate feedback on the aesthetic and emotional appeal of the images.  I'm excited about the new direction, you can see it's a departure from my work to date (http://mattbeardsleyphoto.com)

Also, on a technical note, one of these was shot on a Nikon D3 and one on a Hasselblad H3DII-31.  I think the difference in the way the two cameras render the scene, with the same lighting, is really striking.  It's pretty simple lighting, one grid spot high behind camera..  Thanks for your valuable feedback!

They're both very nice portraits, although neither of them says "distance runner" to me apart from your title.

My thoughts exactly.
