Camera that accepts FP-100C suggestions
« on: July 30, 2010, 09:53:56 am »

I got a bunch of FP-100C for my Contax back, but I hate wasting all that space on the film.  Anyone have any ideas on a camera that takes 3.25"x4.25" film and fills the frame completely?  I don't want to spend a lot either.

Mamiya Universal! I enjoy shooting Fujiroids with mine.
The two lenses for the Universal/Press which were designed to fill the Polaroid frame are the 75/5.6 and 127/4.7.
The 75/5.6 is a Super Angulon-like design. Very highly regarded.
The 127/4.7 is a Tessar design. One of the most affordable lenses for this camera.

But also consider these:
The 100/2.8 is a 6-element Planar design, and at wider apertures, I much prefer it to the 127/4.7. The 100/2.8 just runs out of steam in the corners of Polaroid (image vignettes) at infinity, but that's hardy noticeable in indoors shots or portraits.
The 50/6.3 is a Biogon-like design, and it too just vignettes a tad on Polaroid. But I love it for its ultrawideness on Polaroid - it's like an 18mm lens on 35mm film! An example of mine is here: http://photo.net/medium-format-photography...00VcNG?start=10

not bad for around $100. Looks like these cameras are 6x9.
this will fill the whole 3.25"x4.25" film?

Yes, the Mamiya Press series are basically 6x9 cameras. The Universal was the final model, and it offered additional back options, including genuinely full-frame Polaroid - no black areas left within the Polaroid print.

I've been looking for a rz67 pro II for a while at a steal of a price, but maybe I'll get one of these and play with 6x9.  I got plenty of film!

I saw that with a 6x7 back on it... there is one on ebay with the polaroid back, but it's $750.

$412 was a rather high price for that kit to fetch in an auction. I would have thought $300 tops for the camera, Type 2 6x7 back and 100/3.5 lens; the old flash and lightmeter are hardly worth over $100. Maybe Mamiya Press prices are on the up again. They have quite a following on Flickr etc.

Forget the $750 kit. Keep your eyes open and you'll get one for far less.

that is exactly what I'm hoping for... without the light meter/flash/polaroid back, the are $100.  i would much rather get one with a polaroid back for $100 and then pick up a 6x9 back.
