library problems

]whenever i start LR3 it will open up almost all current folders. closing folders and restarting LR won't help.
a great pain because i dont want to close dozens of folders each time using LR.

LR just cant remember the last set of folders use, instead it opens a large variety at random.
has anyone experienced the same. LR 2 doesnt - i just checked.
any help very appreciated.

thanks david, i tried it but it doesn't work. maybe a mac problem? but alt is alt key i guess.
