It doesn't matter that it effects one person? What if that person is you and you could not profit from your picture? Nikon (and other camera mfrs) should be more inline with their clients.
My wife puts contest entries in front of me where
all entrants waive all rights! The get a recognizable photographer name to shill for them as judge, and request images that promote, complement, or otherwise put the sponsor's brand, product, mission, magazine, etc. in a good light.
Great! The sponsor only needs to sift through the entries and pick out all the good ones for free. The winner gets a discount on a workshop with the photographer/judge.
