Dmax, bronzing, gloss difference is quite specific for the combination of ink set/paper/printer model and even the driver. So where a certain paper fails on a 3880 it does not have to be bad on a Canon or HP model or an Epson with a another ink set than tested here. To really cover all combinations consistently must be an enormous task. Some sources to gather information (on Dmax mainly): Paul Roark's pages, Aardenburg Imaging's initial Lab numbers and the forums related to B&W printing. The QuadTone curves etc available in the download may tell something too for Epsons.

Yes, that's what I'm using for these tests... the Quadtone RIP calibration page.  It just pushes ink in 5% increments for each of the inks.  To me, it's an essential tool to enable straight-forward comparison of how papers respond to ink.  I have not tried the QT Rip to print black and white images yet, but I'm sure it's excellent.
