I have finally decided to get a USB 3.0 adapter card, give my wife my 6 Maxtor 1-Touch 4 external 500G USB 2.0 drives, and get 3 2Tb external USB 3.0 drives rather than getting internal drives and external cases.
The two most likely choices are Western Digital and Buffalo Technology, each of which can be had for about $200. I don't want to go the Drobo or other array setup.
Anybody have experience with Buffalo Technology drives?
