Scratched Aptus 75 IR Filter (episode 2)
« on: June 25, 2010, 04:02:28 am »

Hello all , as i mentioned in a previous post i have scratched my IR Filter on my Aptus 75.
I have 2 ways i can go about having it repaired ,1. send it to Europe to be replaced costing
Euro 1620 + transport to and fro probably $150 and Vat of 14% , i am worried about the duration
cost and the  possibility of the back being damaged in transit.

2. for Euro 500 replace the IR filter myself which i have been told is very easy 6 screws only worry
is getting dust inside the sensor area ,also have to upload a gain file to the back.
How easy is it to achieve and upload the gain file ?

Thanks to any people that answer.

Regards
Terence

Hi Terence,

I would do it myself. I removed that filter once to get rid of a little dust spot. No problem. If you feel uncomfortable with that ask your dealer or a local optician/watchmaker will probably also do it for you without a great charge. They are used to tiny screws ;-) Don´t touch anything inside!

Cheers, Ulf

hi terence,

in march 2oo9 i sent an aptus 22 to calumet in hamburg to have the protecting glass replaced.
they charged ca € 3oo.- for the filter + € 2oo.- for the work.
so it was € 5oo.- + 19% vat.

and i thought that was not cheap...

i made a few phone calls and  got a quote from phase one in germany.
it is a bit cheaper than your original quote, and a bit more expensive than what i payed before leaf was bought by phase.

the funny thing is that they only had pricees for sensor replacement of their phase one backs, not for their leaf backs.
i might have news for you on in a few days.

An IR filter replacement for Aptus 22/ 33MP, if done in the factory, is 999 EUR or 470 EUR if you buy it as a DIY kit. (prices ex. VAT)

Thanks AlDoori and Yair .
Looks like my local agents markup is a bit high on the factory repair , but close on the DIY kit.
Think i will have to  DIY , and my insurance company still has not got back to me , might be
retouching the scratch mark off quite a few images before i resolve this.

Yair a question please , is the gain file required for an IR filter replacement ? and
if it is , is it as simple as uploading a lens gain file ?

Thank You.

If you choose the DIY route, you'll only have that option - loading a custom gain file although you might find the factory one to work OK.

If it goes in then it gets re-calibrated and gets a new factory file installed.
