Mac OS 10.6.3/Safari JPG display issue.
« on: June 10, 2010, 09:28:13 am »

I exported this jpg from LR on my PC. I recently switched to using Safari [from Opera] on my Macbook, when I noticed the problem. Both PC and Mac are profiled with my Spyder2express. I understand Safari supports embedded profiles [I also see this issue in Preview].

This is the only image I've seen issues with though [image on right]. I managed to correct by saving from PS and disabling embedded profiles. Using the factory preset monitor profile also resolves it.

However, I'm wondering what problem I'm actually seeing here. Any ideas?

Actually on closer inspection, I'm seeing similar colour shifts in other images which were scanned with my Epson v600/Vuescan [as RAW]. None of my images from my dSLR show this problem. Could Vuescan be the culprit?

Ok, so after more digging around, it appears that OSX/Coloursync applies the monitor profile to untagged RGB images. But anything with sRGB embedded looks bloody awful. As far as I'm concerned Colousync is broke.

I can simulate the nastyness in PS by opening an untagged image, assigning my monitor profile. Then use proof setto sRGB and preserve RGB numbers.

Is there a workaround for this? Or is OSX a POS when it comes to colour managed applications....???

Anyone?
