Mamiya rz67 pro II
« on: June 07, 2010, 09:20:43 am »

is anyone here using that camera? What back are you using? what is the most coverage you can get on a 6x7?
This camera is on my list of "to buys" without the digital back, but i would always like the option. Also, is there a back that you can put your own plates on so that it would work on a mamiya rz67 pro ii and swap the plate for a contax 645?`

I've used it with V-mount Phase One backs... If you get a Pro IID body you can use it with M-mount backs without any cables.  Both systems work well.  I'm not sure if anyone is making a Contax adapter for RZ though.

V mounts are the hassey backs, right?

I've been in love with the rz67 that my friend uses with film for band promos.  I saw an ebay auction for a  rz67 pro II with a 120,220, and polaroid back + 110mm lens for $800.  All it was missing was the prism... and I wanted the 90mm not the 110mm.

edit my friend's rz67 work from 2 bands on the same day

I'm in the same boat. So you know, the leaf/RZ adapters for the proII are now $1600.  So don't buy it until I get my adapter ok? I don't want any competition if anybody want to sell a used one. if you pay up for the proIId then the adapter i think is only $700.

when I bought my Kodak SLR/n, the price was $2.4K. When I started looking at getting one, they were setting for $1,100.
When I bought my contax 645, the price was $1400. When I started looking, they were $900.

Seems that whenever I start looking at getting something seriously, I don't pick up on some ebay auctions... then I end up spending 100% more.

The AE Prism fails in comparison to the beautiful sight of looking down into the WLF, and also seriously reconsider going past the 110 2.8 for the 90 3.5, the 110mm f2.8 is an amazing lens to use and favoured by most RZ users as the standard lens.

my last dmf combo was a p30 with rziid (and afdii)....great camera great lenses.....but it makes you cry every time you look through the finder and see that crop.....which is of course worse with the p30 but not much better with the aptus....the camera and finder are made for 6x7 and every dmf back makes it painfully obvious.....prism with the eyeflip. magnifier works but that way you can't really see the whole image.....focus is hard....very hard...especially when shooting people.....

this new combo would be great if they could somehow adapt the wlf or at least a prism to the crop and enlarge it.....

out of all the available options it is along with the hy6 the only wlf and rotating back option.....and that aptus 33 is a great back....

I had the 50, 90, 110 and 180..... the lenses are wonderful....I preferred them all to any of my hassV lenses.....the Rollei schneiders are better.....but the mamiyas draw beautifully without lacking contrast or sharpness....

anyone know if the back on the RZ33 is compatable with a 645 system as well? would be nice to have one back for both systems... i much prefer the wlf on an rz when doing verticles.

The RZ33 has a Mamiya DM33 back, which is the same as a Leaf Aptus II 7 back, and it's an AFD-mount back, so yeah, it works with the 645 cameras.
