Wondering what insiders as Eric Chan or Jeff Schewe could add without breaking NDAs.

A lot of work has indeed already gone into soft proofing for Lightroom. It was on the spec until the point in time where the decision to defer it to the next version was made.

There's stuff that has gone on in the LR 3 development cycle that I can't get into...but suffice it to say soft proofing getting yanked pissed me off too. But feature triage is a fact of life and implementing soft proofing into a parametric based workflow that allows both accurate output previews and the ability to store the output adjustments parametrically isn't easy.

And no, forget Photoshop's soft proofing...that works for pixel based edits (although some feel PS's soft proofing needs major help) and simply slapping that into Lightroom ain't gonna happen.

As one of the many who is lusting after soft proofing in LR, I respect those that are doing the work and making the decisions. I would (reluctantly) have them get it right than rush it out the door.

Sigh... I reulcantly agree. Getting it right is more important than getting it out before its ready - but I am still pissed its not there.

Agreed here too.  Love LR and will make the upgrade when funds are available, but would really really loved to have seen the proofing in this version.

I remember from Michaels very first Lightroom Tutorial with Jeff....gently ribbing Adobe/Jeff about ..."c'mon.....I mean no softproofing?  And that was for version 1!

:-)

Darned us consumers!  We aways want that which is just beyond our reach.  We can only hope that we don't have to wait until version 4 for this, but rather some point release down the road.

In the meantime, we can all enjoy the great new features and rendering LR3 provides.

Whooohooo!!!  HAWKS WIN THE CUP!!
