Monument Valley sunset color and B&W
« on: June 02, 2010, 11:54:54 am »

Returned last night from trip to Monument Valley just a couple to start off. The sunset color versions sky was the actual color as I never took my polarizer off.
The B&W was run through Silver Efex with a little split toning.
The other shot was a 5am sunrise from the hotel overlooking the valley.
What a wonderful place. Had a chance to see the slot canyons in Page. So many people it made it so hard to take any good pictures.

I have a slight preference for the color version but both are very nice captures.
Good job!

Why do I have the feeling that those pictures are shot on an underexposed Kodachrome, resulting in a generally muddy look? The b&w conversion lost the most attractive part of the image, the nice contrast of the first rays of sun hitting the rocks? The b&w conversion looks more like being shot at night, with rocks illuminated from a fading dusk light (or barely emerging pre-dawn light).

The color and its black and white conversion were shot at 9pm so it was shot at night. D2Xs no Kodachrome.
Just playing with Silver Efex on several of the color shots but personally I prefer the color version.
