I have an Epson 3880, now what?
« on: June 01, 2010, 09:42:15 am »

I feel that I'm not making the best use of this printer.   Is there a book or online learning source that can teach me how to optimize prints?  I am a complete newbie when it comes to paper selection and how that affects prints.   I've not taken this printer past the auto settings and feel that I'm missing out on all of its potential.

Luminous Landscape has some excellent "how-to" tutorials that are reasonably priced and downloadable. "From Camera to Print" is almost seven hours of just about everything you need to know, and it's only $35 US.

Start with this web site: http://people.csail.mit.edu/ericchan/dp/Epson3800/index.html I found (and still do) this to be very helpful regarding my 3800. Besides the general information that is covered, try using his ABW profiles; I have had great results with them. If this is your first printer, don't try too many things at once; try to develop a workflow (and some paper choices) that gets you as close as you can to what you want, before looking for all the tweaks.

Ken,  I have the camera to print video - it's excellent and just the style of teaching that I am looking for.  It really doesn't delve deep enough into the specifics of this printer for me to fully understand its capabilities and limitations.

Peter, thanks for the link.  I'll take a look at this tonight.

Adam,

I'll second the recommendation for Eric Chan's website (the link Peter mentioned). He has extensive and readable discussions of just about everything you need to know. He talks specifically about the 3800, but your 3880 is very similar (slightly different inkset) and his discussion is much better than anything you'll find in a manual.
