Provocative view on copyright

Johanna Blakley's recent TED Talk is a provocative look at copyright and the culture of copying in the fashion industry.

While in the beginning it seems there is not much connection with photography, there are numerous relevant insights. Skip to 11:10 for a telling glimpse at the financial bottom line.

I'm aware the topic is almost as toxic as pictoral depictions of Mohammed in some other circles, so let's keep this civil.

It's an interesting talk.  However, to compare it to photography, knock-off fashion would be equivalent to someone using the same equipment at the same location to make the same sort of image.  The issue for photography as I understand it is the idea of someone else using your product - to relate this back to fashion, it would be the equivalent of breaking into a fashion designer's warehouse and stealing not the patterns but the clothes themselves.
