Digital lenses Arcs Swiss 6X9
« on: May 25, 2010, 11:04:24 am »

I have a AS 6X9 and intend to use with a DB. I am looking for four (4) lenses. Could you recommend digital
lenses from 40mm  to 210mm. I hope to have them in Copal '0' shutters to keep their size small. I hope to have some
movements, so image circle is important. I will shooting landscape.  NO macro.

The sensor size is 36X48 mm size -33mpx.

Thanks,
RS

I have been asking myself the same question ('cept I will be doing macro), and I think I will get the Schneider  Apo-Digitar 47XL, 80L, 150 and 210...

Rodenstock 35HR(still about 12mm of movement), 55, 70HR, 90HR. Any of those would be great choices.

I've worked 6 month with a digital back and a Fline (now working with an RM3D)

You should avoïd 35mm lenses, so difficult to focus properly !

The best choice for an F line is the Rodenstock digaron 40 !

I went for the 35XL, nice lens but a nightmare to focus... now it's ok with the RM3D

More distorsion with the 40, but you will be able to focus properly !
There's a new schneider 43, but didn't read anything about it yet !

If you need a shorter lens, then you need an other camera...

the rodenstock 70 and 90 are also top lenses !

For 120, rodenstock and schneider digitar are both good, the schneider being smaller !
210 is quite long... i've choose a 180 myself !

I think any of the newer Rodenstock W series lenses or Schneider L/XL lenses would be the best choices for you.  The current line of telephoto lenses are not as good as they could be, and I would recommend waiting for anything over 120, if you can.  Rodenstock's roadmap for their lenses will be to consolidate their APO Sironar Digital line into their W series.  Hopefully, they will revisit these designs to improve contrast and CA.  Similarly, Schneider is also introducing higher performance lenses with larger image circles, but they seem to be slower to market.  Basically, contrast and CA suppression get much more difficult to control in the lens designs as the focal length increases, and the telephoto lenses need more attention, at least in my opinion.

Well, a number of architectural photographers use lenses from 23mm upwards on their technical cameras, because they need that wide view. It is certainly challenging to use it on a regular view camera, but wide angle lenses are indeed difficult to focus on any camera. Live View would help!

then you need live view or Cambo Wide RS / Alpa / Arca RM3D...

anyway, with an Fline, if you want to use the rotaslide, then the shorter lens usable is the 35 (but you will have to use a M back)

by the way, the 72 digitar is a nice tiny lens also !
