Pearl/Luster double sided options
« on: May 24, 2010, 02:09:37 pm »

Hello,
I've been printing my images on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl for the last few years as I really like the weight and surface.  I'm looking to try some double sided printing for my portfolio in lieu of clear sleeves.  I only seem to see matte surfaces as a heavyweight option.  Does anyone have any experience with anything with a pearl surface and heavy weight?

Thanks

Inkjetart has a Luster that is double sided:

I use the normal Luster and like it a lot.

how is the weight (i prefer heavy)?  also how do you think it would hold up to handling (in a sleeveless book)?

Thanks

My Inkjet Paper List is a great way to find a set to try out. Here's a list of double-sided papers I've tried:

Hahnemuhle Natural Art Duo
HP Brochure & Flyer
Moab Entrada Rag Bright
Moab Entrada Rag Bright
Moab Entrada Rag Natural
Moab Entrada Rag Natural
Moab Lasal Photo Matte

You can find the weights and such for the paper in the spreadsheet above. Red River Paper also makes several double-sided options, and I have a sample pack waiting at home for me after this trip to do a bunch of testing on them.

Enough matte versions with dual sided coatings but few gloss, semi-gloss.

Mitsubishi has some, Red River too. No experience with printing them though.

Ilford has a new double sided luster finish paper:  http://www.ilford.com/en/products/galerie/...thLustreDuo.asp  It's listed at 280 gsm which may meet your requirements.  Haven't tried it myself.

I was looking for double sided luster/gloss papers last month, to update my portfolio, and after some research I came across Ilford's Luster Duo, as well as Pictorico's PRO Luster Duo. Neither are as heavy as fine art papers, but after creating custom profiles, I got excellent results from both.
