z3100 formatter board problem
« on: May 21, 2010, 12:48:52 pm »

I have posted before because of a lightning strike that took out my ethernet connection. I switched over to the USB and it worked fine until I returned home from a 5 day trip and tried to print. It shows that there is no printer online. Rebooted the printer and the computer all to no avail. It looks as if I will have to change out the formatter board @ $750.00  or more. Does it require a Tech to do this? I simply can't afford to have HP do it at $1000.00 plus parts. One other question, would installing a Jetdirect card take care of the issue? Look forward to your answers.

replacing the formatter is very straightforward.  you might want to check the z3100 wiki for more info.  A service manual is available (via 5-part download -  If you'd like a copy of the re-assembled pdf feel free to contact me).
