HP z5200ps
« on: May 18, 2010, 03:03:01 pm »

HP have announced the new 8 ink z5200ps printer.

Fortunately I was at IPEX to see one (even if not many HP people knew what it was)

Squarely aimed at the 'printshop' market, it's being pushed on speed and economy (300ml carts)

I've got some more photos up in a blog post about my IPEX visit, but note the extra space in the left hand ink cart bay that could take the design to 12 inks ;-)

An 8 ink model like the Z2100-PS and Z6100-PS. Design like the Z2100-PS but with Turbo bulges on the ink chambers. Checking the reason why they wanted larger carts I see the speed is on the Z6100-PS level but the head carriage doesn't look like it is wider than on the Z2100, so more likely new heads with a denser nozzle surface or higher frequency than the use of the Z6100 heads in a Z2100 body. Hard to tell though, no pictures of spare heads yet. My guess a model in between the Z6100-PS and Z2100 that should recall some memories to the 5000-5500 models as well. The Z2100-PS is no longer mentioned in the pages but the Z2100 is so may stay in the catalog at the cheaper end. If this translates to Z3300 12 ink models on Photokina then the speed will be at the level of the Epson and Canon models again.

There are some rumors about very low Designjet 130 prices. I hope there will be a 17" sheet version of the 12 ink printers in the pipeline too.
