Cs5 downloading as we speak.
« on: April 30, 2010, 06:32:55 am »

Up this morning at 4:30 and found my download email from Adobe. Its about 1.2gb and shows about 2 hours to download. Am more interested in seeing how the 64bit update works for my Mac. Presently have CS4 on my 2 Mac's and would like to put this on my PC laptop as well. Not sure if I can put on 3 machines but will check on that later this morning.

Very interested to know how it runs as a 64 bit app for mac - its the primary reason I am considering upgrading.

PhotoShop CS5 trial downloaded and installed.

Wow, startup and file open are lightning fast!

My system has 18GB of RAM and the PhotoShop performance Preference allows me to set memory up to 17588 MB.

As has been mentioned else-where, it is no longer possible to select "No Colour Management" in the PhotoShop print dialogues. I wonder if there is a work-around...

I am interested in 64 bit as well as accuracy with old Epson SP 9600 printer.

How does the 64 bit thing work?  Are there two executables and I have to buy the right one?  Or is it a single install?  I do not want to go 64 bit until I toss my current machine and I'm not ready to do that right now.  I'm also not willing to buy (expensive) 32 bit software if I'm going 64 bit in a year (or so).

This is on windows...

Adobe is not responding right now or I would look there.

I've got the store front ordering page open (flash.... grrrrrr).  I don't see separate SKU's for 32 vs: 64bit.

It appears to be the same as Lightroom, both 32 and 64 in one package. The installer will install the appropriate one for your system.

Let you know in a bit. It is unzipping now.

Indeed both are in the same packaging. The installer will make the decision.

Very very cool.  The prospect of paying for a new PC AND CS5 AND LR3 and and and all at the same time was not making me happy.

I just tried all my plug ins in 32 bit mode and they all seem to be working so far.

Tried my Genuine Fractals 6 Pro plugin and its not listed. I have CS5 in 32bit. What did you do if anything to get yours to work. Mine still works in Cs4 but I have no plugins at all listed in CS5?

New to the mac. Can you explain the copy and paste method. Thought everything would find itself on its own, apparently not.

Copy/Paste each of the plug ins from CS4 to CS5 ,same folder as on CS4 (plug ins folder).I think PK Sharpener goes to Automate.Do this once you have set CS5 to start in 32bit mode. If you're using any of the on one plug ins they have moved to the Automate . It should work

If the plug ins are in a folder copy/paste the entire folder

I think I better leave this one alone for now. Not sure what I'm doing. Looked at both photoshop folders in Applications. PS5 was the only one that had a plugin folder. My Nik Software Suite is Lightroom only so nothing to do with that one. GF 6 is also Lightroom but should work as a stand alone in photoshop. Nik and Onone will have the 64bit updates pretty soon nd I think that will put everything in its place automaticly. I still have a pretty long list in cs4 under plugins but do not even know if they are active, None of these are listed in CS5. If you have not figured it out yet I pretty much only use photoshop as a pass through for my GF 6 plugin. Plus some other things too just not much.

you can try it with just one plug in and see if it works. Good luck

I first changed Cs5 to 32 bits. Opened Lightroom and then clicked on an image and then edit image in CS5. The image opens but no Onone plugins available. Back to Lightroom send an image through GF6 and it opens CS4 and works with GF6.
Not sure I want to be moving things around. Besides that I never did find the folders with any plugins. Oh well I can fly a pretty good airplane just not so great with this sort of thing!

There is absolutely no rush. I am sure you have the plug ins folders. Set CS5 to 32bit. What you have to do is -open 2 copies of the HD screen. Copy one plug in from the CS4 plug ins folder to the CS5 plug ins folder. You won't move anything around because you're only copying. If it doesn't work you just delete the copy you have put in the CS5 .After you have the plug in moved to CS5 try if you can work with it through LR . In any case you have to move the PS plug in and not the LR plug in .

Then again , no rush . Hope this helps

   Cheers
