a BW treatment
« on: April 27, 2010, 10:24:27 am »

One of the things I learned about photography is to try to avoid putting labels on things, especially when one is presenting an image to a first time viewer. That way, people can decide whether they like an image or not on its own terms. So I decided to avoid titling this image to see what people think about it.

Edit: So in order to avoid wasting space and time, I have added a few more images, which are obviously in colour. Isn't Spring wonderful.

PS Don't worry Fred, the last swirl image is just for fun!

OK, Russ and Sayeed. Maybe you are right. I never expected that, so I will have another look at a larger copy.

Be carrefull John with the kind of the first one: There was a painter that was doing this over and over again. After many years, he went crazy and commit suicide!

As a big fan of BW I prefer the color one. But I think it's the in-camera treatment that works better, IMHO. So I'd like to see a BW rendition of it as well.

Thanks Eric. Both images are in-camera compositions, slightly processed for contrast and brightness. The BW is an experimental treatment. The colour image loses all its expressive qualities when converted to BW. IMO, the psychological qualities of the colour and the softness is lost in the BW image. I personally seldom see the need to convert to BW, since what I see in my mind's eye is the visual design and the colour balance and how the image appeals to me.

Fred, not to worry, I am not the painter, and as far I can tell my ear is still intact;) But oh to be able to photograph as well as that famous man painted! I can hear the Don MClean song now...Starry starry night...
